All rules from the Graywater Discord apply while in a Graywater game, but in addition the following rules and best practices apply:

5E 2024

We use the 2024 5e rules system for most games. You may be allowed to use Legacy/2014 if you ask Dusk and explain your reasoning. This is on a case by case basis.

Correcting/Interrupting other players

Do not correct other players about the rules. You are NOT the DM.
It is not your place to publicly call out rules infractions or cheating.
If you notice a rules infraction or suspected cheating please message @dusk privately and let him know in a direct message.

If you need to remind someone about a status effect from a spell that you caused or have a clarifying question about their turn either type the question in the chat or ask “May I interrupt?” or “Can I interrupt?” and allow the player or Dusk to either allow you to interrupt or tell you to wait till they’re done with their interaction.

Some players may be ok with taking advice or suggestions, but you should check their Lines and Veils card. See Lines and Veils in the Graywater Safety Tools.

In D&D there are no general questions.

If someone asks what seems like a general question, it is a question to the DM even if you know the answer to it.
Do not answer it. Many players consider this to be rude.

No Goalies

No one owes you their turn/action/RP in a game. This is a resource game and everyone is excited for their cool ideas and turns, they don’t always want to spend it on someone else.
If you are down and you ask to be healed, other players are under no obligation to do so. Just because someone has healing spells does not make them your healer.

If you have a really cool move you want to set up and another player doesn’t want to help you with it, they don’t have to.

Player Versus Player actions (PVP) Require active consent from both parties.

This includes but is not limited to:

- any negative spell effect
- any attack
- stealing from another PC
- attacking an NPC that is from a particular PCs backstory

Romance is not allowed between Player Characters.

Flirtation and romance with NPCs is allowed with exceptions.
See Lines and Veils in the Graywater Safety Tools.

Do not interrupt other players when they are speaking.

When it is not your turn please keep yourself muted either through discord or your headset, so that we can’t hear your background noises during others’ turns. When Dusk asks another player a question please give them space to answer. Not everyone likes being put on the spot and being rushed, so please allow people the chance to think and give an answer before trying to jump in. If you have a great idea or suggestion you can always put it in the chat.

Do not change another PCs stats without permission.

While you may view other players’ sheets in your campaign please don’t make any changes without their permission.

Venmo campaign names

Please send your payment to the Venmo link with the subject line including: “CampaignName” anything that doesn’t include your campaign name will make it very difficult for me to keep track of the payments.

Cheating

Don’t look up stat blocks for the monsters you are fighting.
Don’t read the book of the campaign you're in as a player.

If you have monster stats memorized from DMing or for other reasons, please keep these three things in mind:

  1. Do not use information in character that your character doesn't know.
(EX: This is a Sword Demon. I looked them up and I'll use Acid because I know they're weak to acid!)

  2. Do not share outside game knowledge with other players.
(EX: Saying: “You should use your acid attack on the Sword Demon because I know they're weak to acid.”)

  3. I rarely stick to the statblock when designing combat encounters, statblocks are just a suggestion.
(EX: It says that Sword Demons have 50 hit points and 12 AC but this one had 200 hp and 16 AC.)

  4. Do NOT share knowledge of what is or isn't in the book with other players.
(EX: In the book the Sword Demon's are supposed to be friendly to us, but they attacked us instead. I wonder what that means?)

  5. Do NOT expect me to stick to the book or use it even close to accurately.
(EX: Why is the plot in my game different from the plot I read in the book?)
I do not think of the book as a roadmap, I think of it as a suggestion. I build my narratives around the characters and if 2 groups run the same campaign I expect those campaigns or one-shots to be DRASTICALLY different.

I ask that you be respectful of the story and of the other players who are playing these games with you, myself included. I try my best to cultivate a unique experience for each group of players and characters. People play these games to be surprised and ruining the surprise may ruin aspects of the story for many people.
